Spock

This board just about captures the frustration of being an artist. Some things work out and others are rubbish, well at least in my eyes anyway. The first set are three attempts to make a likeness of the actor Rob Lowe. As ca be seen by my frantic attempts and frustration they didn't work out. By the way I wasn't trying to make Rob Lowe look some one off of the Black and White minstrel show but rather I was trying to hide my inability to make a likeness with heavy heavy shadow. As can be seen from the results it didn't work.

I went out and did a bit of shopping and switched on the wonderful Star Trek movie when I got home. Suddenly I couldn't do any wrong. Now I have no explanation for this - perhaps the neurons and synaptic connections just needed a change of scenery to reset themselves. What ever the reason I am glad they did what they did.

Gaga

Over the past week or so I have been busy doing many things, visiting the new Hepworth Gallery - great place just watch out for the crazy sign posts that can send you the wrong way up. A one way street if you are not careful! I have also been spending a whole lot of time analysing an old map of Ibstock. For most people this is not an interesting way to spend your time but I felt it was. Finally, of course, I have been drawing.

I appear to have hit a bit of a purple patch with my art at the moment. I have no idea why this is but suddenly things started to click and drawing after drawing turned out much the way I would have wished for. It is worth noting that I wouldn't have thought this yesterday when attempt after attempt to capture Rob Lowe ended in utter disaster. A quick trip to the shops and suddenly all the 'artist' block ( is there even such a thing?) went away.

I ran this portrait up this morning after the first one made Gaga look like a sex toy. Not sure if this is any better but it was more like what I was going for.

Updating web page

I have started to update my web page. It is a bit of a mess at the moment but hopefully over the next few days it should settle down - that's the plan - not sure it will work?

Older man

I enjoyed making this even if it is not an exact likeness - the nose is fractionally to long.

Bempton

It was a long day yesterday but I had a great time. This was the first time I had made any wild life images in a while and it will be interesting to see how my photography has changed over the past 9 month. Now to work really producing a series of interesting images.

Working with brushes

Once more unto the breach... Or something like that. I made similar sketch this afternoon with paper and pencil and found that far more rewarding. I just can't get my heart into using Brushes - I know I have been moaning about this for a while but I am trying to over come my ambivalence by just working with the program. It just has no warmth and feel the same way that paper does.
