Start of something good....

As I look at this I can't help but think of David Hockney. Over the past few months I have become more aware of his work - especially his later work around the Wolds of East Yorkshire. Now I don't at what level this may have influenced me, if at all, but I feel it is there. Perhaps Calke Abbey has a similar effect that the Wolds has on Hockney, my family does have deep connections with this area - although I suspect the game keepers of old may have been less than charitable about my ancestors - but that is a whole new story.
Back to the present. This has been a great start I hope that it's a portent for the year. This, of course, is nonsense but you always have to live in hope. One final thing about blogging. The earlier blog entry I wrote live, actually in the woods and I found this a very powerful thing to do. Whether the prose were any good is not the point. It helped me clarify what I was experiencing - always important when dealing with any artistic endeavour. Anyway onwards and upwards.

Probably the best ever set....

I know it is a little early to say this but I feel the Calke shoot today is one of the best shoots I have ever done. The results have been of the highest quality I have ever turned out. It pushes the bar to the next level - can I keep this up? Only time will tell.

Tired but Happy...

It has been a tiring day, standing on a hill top at Calke Abbey in sub zero temperatures certainly takes it out of you, well it does me anyway. But it has been worth it. I have just looked at the images I captured this morning and they are great. I will work at these in the next few days - boy have I got some catching up to do - and I will no doubt have a better idea as to whether I am satisfied but early indications are encouraging. One last thing - it is great to be out of that cold wind.

Frozen fingers...

This is getting a bit of a stuck record at the moment - but I am cold. I have no one else to blame but myself as I have spent 2 hours on frozen hill top at Calke Abbey photographing birds. But what a wonderful 2 hours - great light, great views of the birds - brilliant. Now I just need to warm up.

Portfolio Two and tree sparrows...

Busy few days - again! yesterday was such a lovely morning that I had to get and visit one of the best sites I know to see tree sparrows - Staunton Harold reservoir car park. This is a popular place as it is next to Calke Abbey so the birds are used to people - so you can get some really great views of the birds which means - great photographs. The extra bonus is that orientation of the car park means that in the morning the sun is in just the right place.

I have also just submitted my Portfolio Two submission to the
Royal Photographic Society. Who knows what will happen but you have live in hope - I think???

A bit of a change....

Busy old day. Didn't get out to Snettisham - the weather forecast was really bad so couldn't see the point. Anyway I have so many potentially great photographs from the Monday shoot to keep me busy for the next few days. On top of this I also got some really great shots, even if I say so myself, from Welney. I just love Whooper Swans. They are so much larger than life compared to our Mute Swan. They are almost geese in their approach to life - large gregarious and full of life.
