A bit of printing....

Well I have been doing some printing. I keep promising to print more but never seem to find the time to get around to it. I currently use Epson's own paper, I have an epson photo printer, but have been wanting to try different papers. I have just ordered some Hahnemuhle Monet Canvas as a tester set just to see what it is like. In the past I have splashed out on very expensive paper and, well not to put too fine a point on it, got my fingers burnt. this time I am taking things slowly and just trying things out to see what I like. We will see how this develops.

The joy of printing

A sunny morning and an early rise - so what to do?   Printing.  I know this is not what many people would have thought but I do find it very therapeutic.   It is a precise and yet requires a degree of artistic flair to get it about right.  I say about right because you never get a perfect reproduction of what you see on the screen what with converting from 16bit to 8 bit, issues surrounding gamut and so on.   Now I have to wait.  The most important lesson I have learnt is that you cannot really judge whether a print is sucessful until at least 24 hours after it has been printed - this allows the inks to properly dry.  So I have 15 A4 sheets of paper hanging about the place - a nice problem to have althought I am not sure my long suffering wife sees it this way.

Printing

Had an enjoyable day printing off some photographs.  I love doing this and some how the photographs obtain much greater meaning and value to me once they have been printed off.   This is a strange reaction when looked at coldly.  The image is the same, or very similar, to that on the screen so what is the difference?  I suppose the difference is that you can hold a print, feel it, smell it.  It has a life beyond a VDU and hard drive and may well last well beyond the hard drive from whence it came has been recycled.  I am going to try and run some more printed off around once a month so I wonder what I will print off then?

Why does it take so long?

"I don't believe it..."

I have just received some paper from Amazon.co.uk that I had ordered Tuesday 13th January (see entry for that day).  This was supposed to be next day delivery.  It clearly wasn't.  Actually I ordered two lots of paper from Amazon.  One was supplied by a HelpdeskIT.biz and the other by Amazon.   The paper from HelpdeskIT.biz arrived the next day - as promised.  The only difference was that the Amazon package was delivered by Royal Mail.   So the question is this - why does it take Royal Mail 3 more days to deliver a package than delivered by a DPD.Co.UK ?  I wish I has an answer to that.

Am I becoming a grumpy old man?  Thinking about it I do have a Victor Meldrew cap.  'I Dont believe it'
